New Album : Georgia Moon
Hey Friends -
Huge personal news - I have a new, and first ever, solo album of all original music that has just come out. It is called Georgia Moon - named after one of the songs on the album and a song many of you have heard me and William Tonks perform.
Georgia Moon is a set of 10 songs that I wrote in collaboration with lyricist Drew Bowen (who some of you may know as an electrical contractor in Athens, GA). The songs were written over a period of maybe a year and a half - he would send me texts with lyrics and then I would structure the words into songs (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.). Then we would get together twice a month and I would write music to fit the lyrics. What was really interesting to me about this process is that some of the songs on the album ended up to be exactly the same musically as they were the first time I played them through with the new lyrics. Pretty magical. And very cool.
I sent it in to have CDs made the other day and they should be ready to go in early June. But meanwhile, the album is available on Bandcamp as downloads. You can give a listen to the songs there on Bandcamp for free, or toss a few dollars in and download the files to listen on your computer. You can also pre-order a CD. Your choice on that. Alternatively, the album should be available on the streaming services soon.
I am super proud of this album. Some of it was recorded at my house, with just me playing and singing all of the parts. But the majority of the songs were recorded at my friend Mark Smith’s studio with a full band and some of the best musicians I know. My friend William Tonks is ALL over the album. Thankfully.

Threats and Promises
By Gordon Lamb
YES, SIR: Right in the middle of last month the excellent new album from Tommy Jordan, Georgia Moon, (MrJordanMrTonks, et al) was released. His skill set is such that he’s supremely comfortable across a range of styles, including country, folk, some jazz, etc. The title track is a smooth example of his lithe jazz/blues stylings, but this track is also kind of an outlier here. It doesn’t happen often, but this album is one of those cases where the sequencing renders each song as superior to its predecessor. Which is a very long way of saying it just gets better the more it’s played. Particular favorites here are the dark banjo-based “Cold Black Magic,” the Tom Petty-ish “Nothing Left to Say,” the driving and surprisingly rhythmic “Siren Song” and the lovely and sad closing song “Stolen.”
Many, many thanks to the great musicians who played on these songs: William Tonks (electric guitar and dobro) Mark Cooper Smith (drums), Greg Veale (bass and harmony vocals), Neal Priest (harmony vocals), Ivan Strunin (fiddle), and Dick Daniels (Upright bass). All other instruments, lead vocals, and harmonies by Tommy Jordan.
All songs written by Tommy Jordan (music) and Drew Bowen (words)
